LPCC & the University of Illinois School of Social Work

The University of Illinois School of Social Work has an on-going relationship with LPCC.  Dr. Lissette Piedra, Assistant Professor at the School of Social Work and an active LPCC board member, has two on-going community engagement projects.  The first project, Puentes y Estrellas del Mar, is sponsored through a grant from the Graduate School of Library and Information Services (GSLIS).   The project uses community informatics (CI) in the development of a virtual service infrastructure to bridge social services across different sectors for Latinos in Champaign County. LPCC as the community partner will share archival information and dedicate a portion of its monthly meetings for updates on the project.

In the second project, Vida Alegre is sponsored by a Campus Research Board grant.  Vida Alegre is a pilot study that tests a modification of a manualized Spanish version Cognitive Behavioral Treatment (CBT) model for depression (Muñoz, Aguilar-Gaxiola, & Guzmán, 2000) and the feasibility of the adaptation for Latino immigrant mothers living in new growth areas.
